In high school, summer was sandwiched between the Schnecksville Fair and the Allentown Fair. So now it doesn't FEEL like summer unless I've had (in some form or another) a pig race, chainsaw bear contest or elephant ear. A couple of nights ago I went to the fair, the face painting was incredible! Everyone looked like a relative of mine or someone I went to elementary school with (mostly because I DID go to elementary school with them...). The most surreal part was the harlequin organ "symphony" conducted by a marionette Bach which played to an empty audience. It just gets weirder from there.
Remember when the Schnecksville Fair was in Time Magazine? The one kid in it (I'm having difficulty finding a link) totally went to my school. We went to the fair together that year. He had a super melodramatic caption on his photo. Something like "the years between childhood and adulthood are crowded with fear, anxiety, blah blah blah" and it was funny because he totally wasn't that kind of kid. He and I used to make hundreds of origami frogs, the kind that actually jump. We would have frog wars and make them fight each other every day, our backyards connected. Life was awesome!
Life is still pretty awesome, wanna know why? I AM GOING TO THE BEACH. Tonight! My friend called me and was all, "Hey, Katie, wanna go to the beach?" and I was all, "YES YES YES" so now I am going to the beach!! I must remember not to get my palm read this time, last time the lady was all, "I see you surrounded by sick children," and I was freaked out.

The Schnecksville Fair! Ah, the memories! Missed it this year. Don't forget the Cement Belt Fair in a couple of weeks.

My family goes to Sea Isle, too. An annual tradition. I've visited the palm reader on the boardwalk in Ocean City a couple times. She was pretty accurate. That's always fun to try out, if you don't take it too seriously.
